Font Pairing Project: Sarah Gaudet Date: November 9, 2016 What does it mean to create a font pairing? To create a font pairing you have to find two fonts that make each other pop, but two fonts that work well next to each other and match. What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each. Assignment two- For this font pairing I had to use the saying “Float lie a butterfly sting like a bee.” I was only allowed a black and white color scheme and a maximum of three fonts with script font included. For this assignment I divided my board into two halves. The top half was white and the bottom was black. I wrote out “float” and “Butterfly” in script black letters and then wrote “sting” and “bee” in a bold, simple font with white letters. Assignment three-For this assignment I had to pick a city and a picture of the city and use a font pairing to name the city. For this assignment I used Dallas, Texas. For Dallas, I used a more of a simple narrow font, and for Texas I used a more bold western kind of font. Assignment four- For this assignment I had to pick a famous quote and use a maximum of four fonts. For this assignment I used the quote “Laughter is timeless, Imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.” For this quote, I wanted to make the words Laughter, Imagination, and dreams really stand out, so I made all of those a sketchy, more bold type of font and then wrote all the other words in a simple less bold font. Also in this assignment I was allowed picture so I chose a dreamy picture of stars. Assignment seven- For this assignment I had to create a font pairing for the saying “these are the good ol’ days.” It had to have a vintage feel with a maximum of three fonts. I had to use some type of graphic or symbol with a neutral color scheme. For this assignment I used old school script for all the words except the word “good” and then used a simpler font for the word good. Then I found a vintage type of frame and wrapped it around the word ”good” because I wanted that word to stand out the most. Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why? I definitely think that assignment four was the best for me. I had a lot of fun with it, and I think that the background, fonts, and quote really go together. I also think that the font pairing itself works well together and really makes the words that I want to pop, pop. Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why? I believe that my font pairing for assignment seven was my least successful. It was the last one I worked on and I rushed. I also struggled with find fonts that had a “vintage feel.” How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult? This was hard for me because the requirements for some of the assignments were difficult to meet. It was also hard for me to see which fonts went well together and which fonts were not always pleasing next to each other. This was easy for me because I thought I was able to pair the sayings or words with good backgrounds.

What does it mean to create a font pairing?

I also struggled with find fonts that had a “vintage feel.”

How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult?

This was hard for me because the requirements for some of the assignments were difficult to meet. It was also hard for me to see which fonts went well together and which fonts were not always pleasing next to each other. This was easy for me because I thought I was able to pair the sayings or words with good backgrounds.
